About Me

Hi team! My name is Emma Bunce. A confident, approachable, enthusiastic instructor who aims to help inspire people of all ages and abilities, to achieve their own dreams and ambitions, using the great outdoors and adventure!

My passion for adventure began with my Grandma. With plaits in my hair and an extra big slice of cake in my lunch box, we would pack a rucksack and head out! Since then, I have been continually exploring; constantly striving to be the very best that I can be. Discovering new countries and cultures, climbing Mount Toubkal in Morocco, completing 2 ski seasons in the 3 Vallee’s, working on an American Summer Camp and setting challenging goals. These include competing at the Adult British Gymnastic Championships and completing my Gold Duke of Edinburgh and Queen’s Guide Awards.

Qualifications

My ability to adapt and learn fast is demonstrated through the variety of outdoor qualifications and sessions that I am able to teach. I use my initiative and imagination to create structured, safe and engaging sessions, which are designed to empower and inspire everyone I work with. My vast amounts of experience working with groups of varying ages and abilities has enabled me to build excellent reports with clients and also progress through previous employment.

  • I have experience working throughout the UK: Dartmoor National Park, Brecon Beacons, Lake District, North Wales and Scotland. I have extensive experience teaching navigation for Duke of Edinburgh groups and aspirant Summer Mountain Leaders. My Summer ML has also allowed me to become an Expedition Leader for overseas expeditions.

  • My Single Pitch Award (now more commonly known as Rock Climbing Instructor - RCI,) has also taken me across the UK to locations such as Cornwall, Dartmoor, the Lake District and Scotland. Climbing is fantastic for building confidence and exploring new places. Through previous employment I have been fortunate enough to sport climb in Spain and Sardinia and in my personal time, the French Alps and Calanques.

  • Indoor lead climbing is one of my favourite activities to teach. I use a structured, progressive approach to build individuals confidence and technique. This allows them to develop into safe, self-reliant and competent lead climbers.

  • Whether you are experiencing paddling for the first time, interested in improving your technique or wanting to learn how to roll. I use core coaching principles to create a safe, fun and developmental session. Previous employment has included amazing paddling expeditions on routes such as the Great Glen Way and the Loch Shiel Round.

  • This intense, immersive course has provided me with the skills and knowledge to deliver wilderness first aid in remote and extreme environments. The week-long course covers topics such as measuring vital signs, environment specific injuries and prolonged field care.

“Incredibly inspiring, super positive energy, very thoughtful and inclusive which makes you very approachable”

Skills and Attributes

My experience includes planning, preparing, organising and leading various activity sessions, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and multi-activity expeditions, both in the UK and internationally. I aim to provide a holistic approach to my instructing, helping individuals and teams to be the best they can be by also focusing on their nutrition, hydration and mental well-being. From working in the industry for over 10 years, I understand just how powerful adventure can be for building confidence, discovering resilience and unlocking determination.

  • I love leading expeditions as this is where you really see individuals develop! I built up my experience as an assistant leader first to countries such as Poland and Slovenia, before becoming an Expedition Leader. I now lead expeditions further afield to countries such as Peru, Thailand, Borneo and Greece.

  • I attended a 7-week mindfulness course in January 2023. The skills and techniques learnt on this course have enhanced my interpersonal skills significantly; increasing my ability to help clients believe in themselves, overcome fears and enjoy adventure!

  • Gymnastics is one of my true passions in life and has given me an excellent foundation in components of fitness such as muscular strength, balance and flexibility. The sport builds resilience and determination; teaching you how to perform as an individual and as part of a team.

  • I have completed my Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards. As part of my Gold Award I completed a 4 day walking expedition in Scotland and completed my residential section at Revitalise: working with disabled people and bringing joy to their holiday experience.

  • I started off as a Rainbow and progressed to become a Brownie, Guide, Ranger and currently a Ranger Leader. Girlguiding has provided me with an abundance of incredible experiences, whilst teaching me invaluable life skills simultaneously. These skills have directly contributed to my career and navigation through adult life.
